Calidad de sueño, salud mental y actividad física en estudiantes universitarios de la Amazonía peruana (Sleep quality, mental health and physical activity in university students from the Peruvian Amazon)

Resumen

En el contexto de la educación universitaria, la calidad del sueño, la salud mental y la actividad física son variables clave para comprender el bienestar de los estudiantes. Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar si existe relación entre la calidad de sueño, la salud mental y la actividad física de los estudiantes de una universidad privada de la Amazonía peruana. La muestra estuvo conformada por 308 estudiantes a quienes se les administró la Escala de Sueño MOS, la escala DASS-21 y el Cuestionario Internacional de Actividad Física (IPAQ). Los resultados preliminares indicaron que la calidad del sueño de los estudiantes se ubicó en un nivel regular; la depresión y la ansiedad fueron evaluadas en un nivel moderado, mientras que las manifestaciones de estrés fueron leves. Asimismo, la práctica de actividades físicas se realizó de forma moderada. Además, se encontró que la calidad del sueño se correlacionó de manera significativa con la depresión (rs = -0.343; p < .05), la ansiedad (rs = -0.441; p < .05), el estrés (rs = -0.280; p < .05) y la actividad física (rs = 0.319; p <.05). De igual forma, se reportaron correlaciones significativas entre la actividad física y la depresión (rs = -0.315; p < .05), la ansiedad (rs = -0.265; p < .05) y el estrés (rs = -0.323; p < .05). En conclusión, se encontró una relación significativa entre la calidad del sueño, la salud mental y la actividad física en los estudiantes de una universidad privada de la Amazonía peruana.

Abstract. In the context of higher education, sleep quality, mental health, and physical activity are key variables for understanding the overall well-being of students. This research aimed to determine whether there is a relationship between sleep quality, mental health, and physical activity among students at a private university in the Peruvian Amazon. The sample consisted of 308 students, selected through probabilistic sampling, who were administered the MOS Sleep Scale, the DASS-21 scale, and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Preliminary results indicated that students' sleep quality was at a regular level; depression and anxiety were evaluated at a moderate level, while stress manifestations were mild. Likewise, physical activity was practiced moderately. Additionally, sleep quality was found to be significantly correlated with depression (rs = -0.343; p < .05), anxiety (rs = -0.441; p < .05), stress (rs = -0.280; p < .05), and physical activity (rs = 0.319; p< .05). Similarly, significant correlations were reported between physical activity and depression (rs = -0.315; p < .05), anxiety (rs = -0.265; p < .05), and stress (rs = -0.323; p < .05). In conclusion, a significant relationship was found between sleep quality, mental health, and physical activity among students at a private university in the Peruvian Amazon.
