Resumen

Este estudio examina la influencia del liderazgo de Silvio Berlusconi sobre la percepción social de la corrupción en Italia, un país caracterizado por la alta personalización de la política desde la caída de los principales partidos tradicionales en la década de los 90 como consecuencia del Caso Tangentopoli. Para su estudio se ha implementado un método Delphi en el que se ha recopilado la opinión de distintos expertos de gran relevancia académica y profesional en el ámbito de los medios de comunicación, la corrupción, el liderazgo y la ciencia política, para evaluar cómo el liderazgo personal, carismático y populista de Silvio Berlusconi ha influido sobre las actitudes sociales hacia la corrupción en Italia, en general; y hacia los casos de corrupción en los que el expresidente se vio implicado. Los hallazgos reflejan que el liderazgo populista y la estrategia comunicativa de Berlusconi normalizaron la percepción de sus escándalos, ejerciendo de contrapeso a las acusaciones de corrupción gracias a su interacción con los medios de comunicación y la existencia previa de una crisis de legitimidad del sistema político italiano. El caso Berlusconi nos da claves para entender otros casos posteriores de normalización de la corrupción por líderes populistas.
