Resumen

Las alianzas público-privado (PPPs) - esto es, políticas que conllevan algún nivel de colaboración
entre el sector público y el privado en la provisión de servicios públicos - han adquirido gran
centralidad en la agenda educativa global. Como consecuencia de ello, actualmente, las PPP están
muy presentes en las discusiones de reforma educativa que se dan tanto en países industrializados
como en países en vías de desarrollo, y se están promoviendo mayores dosis de participación
privada, elección escolar y competición entre centros en el marco de los sistemas educativos.
Este artículo explora los orígenes de la idea de las PPPs en el campo de la política educativa y,
concretamente, qué organismos internacionales y mediante qué mecanismos están promoviendo su
implementación a escala global. El artículo también pone de manifiesto los puntos débiles de los
argumentos y las metodologías en que se sustentan las prescripciones de políticas de los
defensores de las PPPs y, a su vez, plantea una agenda de investigación alternativa al estudio de
los efectos de las PPPs basada en la conocida como ‘evaluación realista.
