The mythology allows Calderón to build the most intricate dramatic pieces to be represented in the Palacio del Buen Retiro. Almost always these mythological festivals did not faithfully follow the history of classical myths. Calderón transformed and manipulated the arguments and actions of the comedies to adjust them to his circumstantial dramatic interest. This happens very clearly in the case of Los tres mayores prodigios. The play picks up the myths of Hercules, Jason and Theseus, mixing the adventures of the three heroes to draw a story that does not require a scenography as complex and risky as the previous comedie El mayor encanto, amor. For this year of 1636, Calderón prefers to focus on the plot and action and forget the complex scenography of the previous drama. This would avoid the problems that occurred in the year 1635 and, in addition, relegate the role of scenographer Lotti to the background. The key to this interpretation is found in the Loa that introduces the piece.

PALABRAS CLAVE / KEYWORDS: Mitología; Los tres mayores prodigios; estrategia del poeta / Mythology; Los tres mayores prodigios; the strategy of the poet.
ER -
