Abstract

The machine tool industry has considerably progressed in the last years with multitasking machines arrival. Turning and milling machines configuration has been combined and evolved from one process dedicated machines to machines that integrate different manufacturing processes. This article purpose is to offer a general idea of multitasking machines, required resources, machine kinematics and configuration, integrated processes and implemented software for multitasking machines control. Finally, main future challenges in the area are described. Key words: Multitasking, programming, manufacturing processes, machine configuration.
