Abstract

The Balear electrical system is composed of two independent subsystems: Mallorca-Menorca e Ibiza-Formentera . They are not connected to the system peninsular Spanish, if this is the European System ENTSO-E. Mains of Spain (REE), single carrier and operator of the Spanish power system awarded in 2007 two important turnkey contracts, including from design to construction, the Siemens company and to the consortium formed by the companies Nexans and Prysmian, for the construction of the stations converters and the cable system, respectively. These contracts meant the start of the Mulo project that constitutes the submarine electricity link between the Peninsula and Mallorca.
